Cassie and her sister, Sara, have helped their mother, Liz, teach many mounted Games meetings at our barns.  She also single-handedly edited this newsletter for two years, with all the postage during that time donated by her parents.  Cassie will be presented with an engraved julep cup, the Joy Bennett Award, at our Annual Awards Banquet on December 5.

Eventing Rule Updates:  (As of 12/04)

Beginner Novice is now a recognized division at USEA and MSDEA-sanctioned shows.

Jump height is 2’7” with drops limited to 3’3”.  Stadium speed is 300mpm.

XC speed can range from 300-350mpm with speed faults at 420mpm.  XC flag color is yellow, or as stated by the organizer.

Novice XC speed faults have been lowered to 450 mpm.  Stadium speed has been raised to 320mpm.

“Coats-off” ruling is no longer a decision by the Organizer at a temperature of 85o OR a heat index of 85o or above – language now is “…competitors will be permitted to compete without jackets” in that weather.  Cooler temperatures are still at the discretion of the Organizer.

Incorrect dress is now cause for elimination at the discretion of the Ground Jury.

Dressage shows now limit dressage whips to 3 ½ feet (43.3” including lash).

What is  “Quiz"?

**Parents look -- this is the signup for Quiz!!

Fall signups

The purpose of Pony Club is to teach children about horsemanship, not just riding.  In order to consider yourself a good "horseperson", you must be familiar with the guidelines for feeding, shoeing, and care of your pony, plus be able to recognize illness or signs of improper care on your part.  Pony Club Quiz is a horse-related "quiz bowl" contest designed to encourage the study of these subjects.  Not only do participants learn what they need to know about horse care, but they also are exposed to many subjects that are required knowledge in order to attain "C" and up ratings - fox hunting terminology, rules for Pony Club Games, blacksmith tools, etc.  Instead of having to cram for the written test at Rally, “Quiz Kids” are already well prepared.  If you have just joined Pony Club, this best way to make friends and learn what this is all about.

The sites for the competitions vary around the Mid-South region. There is a banquet after the competition where the ribbons are given out, usually followed by swimming and/or dancing with a DJ in the ballroom. The cost to you for the competition will be approximately $50-60, which includes dinner for the child.  Additional tickets for dinner have been $20-30 apiece - eating with the kids at the awards banquet is optional for the family. Pony Club gets a rate at a local hotel.

Interested kids need to call me at 228-5678 or e-mail me at pfb5678@aol.com.  I need at least one parent to help with copying materials.  The information is all organized for you - you do not need to be a "horse person".  Parents just like you staff this entire club!  Try to call me by Oct. 31, but during Nov., even early Dec. is OK, too.  The first four kids to sign up in each rating level/age group will be guaranteed a spot on a CBPC team, while later sign-ups may have to go on a composite team with another club, depending on the numbers. I think this is the only fair way to handle this issue.

Note: I recommend that new members who are interested in Quiz wait to test up to their possible riding level until they have competed once because there is a lot of information to learn at the lower levels - call me with questions about that before you take your test.

****Even if you decide not to compete at Quiz, ALL kids are encouraged to come to any or all of the meetings - just call for the times for your ratings.

 Cost of study materials:

            D1 & D2 = $17 for a D Manual; D3-C = another $17 for the C Manual

Children need their own book for the study sessions – sharing doesn’t work well.

Divisions are as follows (PC age is as of Jan. 1st):

            UR & D1  - Under 10

            UR & D1  - 10-12 yrs.

            D2 / D3    - Under 13

            Senior D   - 13 & up for all Ds, including D1s

            Jr. Cs        - Under 14

            Sr. C/Bs    - 15 & up

Ratings Update:   Congratulations to all  :>)
